Can a Recruiter use MySpace for Talent Acquisition?

One social networking site that is extremely popular is MySpace.

The site, pre-Facebook, re-defined the way a generation communicates and boasts 35 million registered users. MySpace's member base is primarily teenagers and young people in their twenties. They use MySpace, Facebook and other such social networking sites to post personal profiles about themselves and to connect with people who have similar interests. These interests range from hobbies, to education needs and employment.

MySpace recognised the network’s potential for employment interactions. At MySpace there was a dedicated section for jobs, which you could post ads directly from recruitment software packages. This section was called MySpace Jobs and has been removed from the site at this stage in the context of a new strategic direction announced by the company.

The new MySpace

In a recent transaction, Justin Timberlake has become one of the owners of this social media giant and will definitely be involved in the redesign and developing creative strategies for the company to move forward. Timberlake partnered with Specific Media company who bought MySpace for $35 million.

The idea of a new MySpace is to help fans interact with their entertainers, listen to music and stay in touch with friends. No announcements have been made about MySpace Jobs. However, the potential of this social networking site to deliver on the talent acquisition front may not be reduced within the new strategic intent of the company. Keep in tune with the developments of this site if you are interested in its intended audience.
